I messaged one of my dearest friends with an annual April Fool’s statement and received a very long away message response:

She was only my step-sister for about four years, but she was family for that time. Ten years my junior she was my little Alli-gator and I hope her soul is resting gently.

My heart breaks for a family that was once mine and for the little girl who crawled in bed with me on Christmas morning all those years ago.I promise, I won’t forget those baby blue eyes or that mop of blond hair.
